calibrateBUMPS 2.0: Week 27-28

Writer: CaitCait

Hi!

The first full week of the third trimester marked a full strength work break while I embraced a week of yoga. My body and mind needed a break from the monotony and, more importantly, needed a stretch and deload.

The week also marked the last full week in Hong Kong before a summer of travel. I'll be out of Hong Kong for a girl's trip next weekend and then again from the 7th of July for a whole month of family travel. The last time we were away that long was February 2022, when we booked a one way ticket out of HK as it completely lost the COVID plot and was culling hamsters. Last time we were away for 3 months and when we left we actually weren't sure when or how we were coming back. This time we have a return date (6 August) and we don't need to navigate the world of quarantine hotels.

With that weird reminder of the draconian time we all lived through, let's get to the week.

Training

Easily summarised this week! From Monday to Saturday I alternated doing 45 min of Vinyasa Flow one day at 40min of restorative stretch the next. Each day I opted to focus on something slightly different, be it flexibility or side body stretches or lower back stretches.

When I was pregnant with Noah I used this yoga app (Downward Dog Prenatal) much more frequently and in shorter bursts (15-20 min stretches after weights sessions) but I also had much more spare time with Noah's pregnancy. Gyms were shut down, some clients opted to train on their own versus with me, so I was only doing 2-3 sessions a day and only some days a week. I used to be able to carve out full 2-3 hour training blocks multiple times a week and was going on long-ish runs right up until week 27/28. This time the world is back on track, I'm much busier at work and at home, so I felt like I needed to give myself the full break to fully focus on slowing down a bit.

Now that I found the yoga groove I think I'll use my strength training rest days to embrace a 45 min yoga session to get my body nice a limber.

For other movement, I did blow past the 10,000 step count each day too.

Life in General

A week of yoga meant I was marginally more comfortable this week. I also felt like my body finally expanded a bit to allow Baby J a bit more freedom to tuck and roll. He certainly felt less stuck beneath my right rib cage which is a very welcome relief because this kid is definitely a spirited gymnast.

However, the option to sit comfortably on chairs is quickly becoming...not one. It's a good thing I spend most of my time in studio either standing or seated on the floor - both of which will continue to be perfectly acceptable alternatives to chairs. At home I also spend most of my time seated on the floor with Noah. Essentially the only seating times that are affected are bus travel, meals, and..........luckily for me, airplanes. Which is great because it's not like I have 40+ hours of air travel to do in the next 6 weeks.

My appetite has definitely reduced but I don't know if that's because of the heat or because of the squashing of my organs. We're definitely at a stage where big meals are just generally a bad idea given my stomach can't expand as much as it used to be able to.

Speaking of heat. It's definitely hot. The great thing with being due in the autumn is a third trimester spent in the glorious heat and humidity. Good thing we're leaving for a month!

On the "mind" front, now that I've decided to fully embrace the fiction books because I don't have the brain capacity for non-fiction, I'm finally excited about reading again which definitely is a great feeling!

Other than that, luckily still no aches and pains. My feet and hands aren't swelling yet. I don't have any weird food cravings or aversions. My normal shorts still fit me (not all shirts do unless we embrace the crop top look though). So overall, not much to complain about!

Baby J gets a scan next week, haven't seen him in 2 months so it'll be good to get a glimpse!

Have a great week folks!
