calibrateBUMPS 2.0: Week 38-39

Writer: CaitCait

Into the final week before D-Day we go!

Firstly, I hope you're all safe and dry after that absolute DELUGE on Friday/Saturday and then the continued on and off rains since then...I'm very very very glad Baby J didn't decide to make an early appearance...

It was a tough week in the life of a person of leisure...Foot massage and lunch with my mum on Monday, lunch with Jack on Tuesday, Rugby World Cup Event with Matt Giteau on Wednesday, foot massage on Thursday...I dropped Noah off on the bus every morning at 7am and by 9am was back home after either walking and podcasting/resistance band training/yoga-ing. Great way to start the day!

The biggest event of last week was Noah starting full day school. She took the first 3 days in her stride, big smiles on the long bus ride in (40min is a long bus ride for me as an adult let alone a 2 year old who has no idea where she's actually going...), excited for packed lunches and lots to talk about after school. By Thursday we were not so keen on the bus ride but still very keen for the school part. Friday's black rain day was actually a blessing in disguise, it let her reset and spend some time at home after a momentous week. Full day school in a language she doesn't speak at home.

Training

Being "child free" for 8 hours a day is a huge change, a change that's not going to last long either so I made the most of it for sure...

Really not much to report at all on this front - yet again. I focussed on keeping the step count up but I did manage 2 bodyweight sessions, and 1 yoga session. Most of my efforts this week were concentrated on really enjoying downtime and quiet time though. I adore my child to the end of the world and back again but having a quiet house for a few hours every day was a novelty and I wanted to make the most of it before chaos ensues. Also, the nesting instinct definitely kicked into high gear this year and nesting when there's already one at home is a much more expensive ordeal than nesting when you don't know what to expect...Noah got a brand new set of bowls and plates just because...

Life in General

Last week I didn't really notice much of a change in how I felt, how I moved, or anything like that. It was very much life as normal which, at this late stage in the game, is definitely something worth thanking Baby J for! No back pain and no discomfort. The sciatica flare up seems to have only lasted that 7-10 day stretch as it hasn't been an issue lately. Sitting upright or at an incline is not super comfortable but if I lean forward slightly and adopt a manspread position or if I lie down, we're golden. This does mean reading in public places isn't an option but that's ok!

The only other thing worth remarking this week is I started packing my hospital bag. Last time I didn't pack it until literally the day before we went to the hospital (the benefit of an induction is you kind of know when it's all going to happen...), this time I've decided to be slightly more prepared. I have half the stuff in my bag and the other half of the stuff is on a list to be added once I feel like the time to start making moves to go to the hospital has come. If you want to know what's going in my hospital bag, you can check out my list on IG!

Finally, as due date approaches the seeds of apprehension and excitement are growing equally quickly. On one hand there is so much to look forward to and I'm genuinely so excited to relive the first few months and truly appreciate all its beauty without the associated feelings of uncertainty, "when will this end", and "when do I get my life back?" but on the other hand I know as soon as Baby J arrives that Noah will cease to be the tiny little kid I see her as now. She'll obviously still be a small human who needs a lot of help but she'll seem so much older, wiser, and bigger. So, until Baby J is born, I'll keep squeezing her as tightly as I can.

With that - I'm writing this later than usual this week and I actually have to head off to a doctor's appointment now. Wish us luck and maybe speak to you next week? Maybe?
