calibrateBUMPS 2.0: Week 26-27

Into the third trimester we go!

Happy Father's day to all the father's, soon-to-be fathers, and father figures!

The theme for this week was discomfort. Not enough to be a huge pain but it felt like Baby J experienced a growth spurt but the rest of my body didn't get the "expand accordingly" memo. Kind of feels like that situation where you're trying to stuff a sleeping bag back into it's original bag, the contents of the bag are larger than the bag itself. He felt lodged and stuck under my right rib for at least half the week and no amount of mobility, movement, side lying, walking, or pressing on my abdomen would move him. He also continued to practice for his audition for Riverdance which didn't really help. The only saving grace was I had a slightly busier week than usual last week so I kept myself pretty distracted from the discomfort for most of the week. With discomfort comes an increased desire to find comfort though so I did spend more time than usual lying down when I was at home this last week and my bedtime definitely moved more towards 8:30pm.

Excitingly, this week marked the coming and going of my "3 months til due date" date which means we are officially into the third trimester! Still feels like we have a lifetime ahead of us before Baby J's arrival but I'm sure these next 3 months are going to fly by. Given this is Baby #2 we don't have too much to prepare but I was just thinking this morning I'm in need of some extra sofa pillows to support my back and shoulders for some cluster feeding sessions so I imagine a trip to Ikea is in my somewhat immediate future.

Before we get into some other stuff - let's get the training part of the week over with. It's a short and snappy summary this week.

Training

Usually my training days are Monday, Wednesday, Friday - those are the days I have a 1-2 hour break at some point during the day so I can get an unrushed training + post-training snack in. On Monday though I was already feeling a bit uncomfortable but I really did want to move so I dropped weights, upped reps, and upped sets to do a "100 rep" session. 5 exercises, 10 reps, 10 sets. It sounds impressive but 3 of the 5 exercises were banded with no weights, the 2 that did have weights were about 40-50% of what I can lift. The session was about moving and that's it.

Tuesday I opted for a 30 min yoga session to stretch and relax a bit.

Wednesday I again went for a mix of bodyweight/banded work as again I wasn't comfortable enough to lift safely or appropriately but still wanted to do something.

Thursday I opted for a long walk in the morning before clients and Friday I did some more restorative yoga to stretch and relax.

Saturday was the first day I woke up with some passion and drive do so something so managed to get my one and only true strength session in.

Sunday is rest and family day.

As always, the programs are up on my IG page.

Life In General

Let's talk pregnancy brain. With Noah, and so far with Baby J, I didn't, and don't, have bouts of forgetfulness and I don't stumble over words or completely draw blanks. BUT I definitely experience reduce cognitive function, and it's super evident in one huge part of my life. For those that don't know me, I'm a reader. There's always a book in my bag and 95% of the time it's a pretty safe bet that it's either historical or scientific non-fiction. The other day I looked back at the reading list I kept when I was pregnant with Noah and I compared it to my reading list this year/what I'm feeling more inclined to read this year. In both cases, it's well over 70% fiction. I've found in the last 1-2 months I just don't have the mental capacity to digest or retain non-fiction information. Fiction is no problem though. Stories I can just get temporarily lost in and don't require an incredible amount of skill or brain function to follow. Now that I've surrendered to this realisation it is an excuse to go to the bookstore to stock up on a few fiction novels...

Brain function aside the only other noticeable pregnancy change I've encountered is reduced appetite. Meals are smaller, less frequent, and the voracious appetite I had in the first 20 weeks are so has disappeared almost entirely. As of last check up I'm still gaining the appropriate amount of weight for my age, starting weight, lifestyle, and size though so I'm just going to keep listening to my body and keep on keeping on.

Other than that (and I appreciate the "that" is quite a bit this week!) - nothing else to report.

We have 3 action packed and exciting months ahead of us and then a lifetime of adventure beyond that! Until then, we'll take each day as it comes and continue to count our blessings and work through challenges and obstacles.

Have a fabulous week everyone!
