calibrateBUMPS 2.0: Week 22-23

Writer: CaitCait

Hola desde Madrid!

We boarded a flight on Friday night to come to Madrid for a few days before continuing on to Menorca for a wedding. It's been a long time since I woke up in a different country on my birthday and I do love it!

Earlier in the week, back in HK, life was pretty much as usual.

Training

I've noticed a growing trend. If I try and do pelvic floor contraction work in the morning, little Baby J has a field day - just kicks and kicks and rolls around, which makes doing the contractions and holds almost impossible. Partly because it's just physically impossible but mostly because it's also just hysterical. So I've had to adapt...

Monday was a light training day. My head was saying "go fo go" but my body was saying "I'm not too sure". So I did a mix of light weights and bodyweight to get some moving in before embarking on a morning of errands.

After a day of rest on Tuesday and a mobility/stretch day on Wednesday I was ready to tackle an upper body Thursday and lower body Friday. For those that don't know, I suffered a nerve injury in my neck/shoulder in the month or two before I got pregnant so I was actually rehabbing that injury in the early days of the new year. For about 8 weeks I couldn't carry Noah with my left arm because my nerve just wasn't firing properly. I had almost zero strength. It slowly built back up and Wednesday was the first time I was able to do 5 sets of 5 reps with 15kg dumbbells since the injury! Huge win for the week.

Friday was a pretty bog standard lower body day, I like to get a high volume lower body day in the day of a flight, makes sitting for 14 hours a bit more palatable.

Saturday and Sunday were exploring days. Lots of walking. Lots of talking. Lots of eating. No training. Over 45,000 steps in the 2 days though despite only being mobile and luggage free for about 6 hours on Saturday - so not bad!

Life in General

Long gone are the days where we could pack the hour or two before we were set to leave for the airport and just bring a backpack with a book and a few chargers and be good to go. Now there are a few days lead up of things to run around to get/prepare and a full roll on suitcase to bring on the plane stuffed full of activities for a small child, snacks for a small child, and extra clothes for a small child. Preparing to leave for a trip is now a full 2-3 day experience...and it's not going to change for a few many years.

Packing for a Europe holiday with no maternity clothes is also an interesting experience. In 2020 I existed in gym wear, something I just don't feel quite right wearing in Europe. I'm not a huge fan of being an obvious tourist (even though we obviously are). So I'm surviving on black lululemon shorts and overalls. For our wedding event I found 2 dresses in my closet that still fit me and my sister brought me a back up dress in case the bump absolutely explodes from all the food. I refuse to buy clothes (even second hand) for 2 weeks worth of wearing.

On Tuesday, back in the Kong, I had a pretty uncomfortable day. I woke up all fine and did the usual playground + school drop off in the morning. Then when I got home I started to feel a bit nauseous and couldn't get comfy in any position. So I ended up back in bed. Didn't eat again until dinner but as soon as I ate I felt miles better. Should have tried to eat earlier in the day I guess...

The rest of the week back home was fairly uneventful which is good because then the trip out to Europe was made even more fun!

On that note, I don't have much time for editing or writing - too much exploring and wandering to do!

Have a fabulous week everyone!
