calibrateBUMPS 2.0: Week 20-21

Writer: CaitCait

Hello!

This was a week of a few mini wins!

1. The anatomy scan went well (more later).

2. I managed to get up and over Violet Hill and The Twins.

3. Jean shorts still fit!

The week started with a "take your child to work" day for Labour Day (only had one session and Jack had a football tournament so my assistant from 2021 reprised her old role) and then was followed up the next day by the anatomy scan. The rest of the week was fairly smooth sailing barring a day of just meh on Friday. Luckily the weekend was one of the memory books so at least the week ended well!

On the scan front, I'm happy to report everything is a-ok. 10 fingers, 10 toes, a head, arms, legs, body, all that. Noah's anatomy scan took 24 minutes which I thought was super speedy given I'd heard stories of other people's scans taking over an hour. I didn't have super high hopes for this scan but miraculously it only took 19 minutes! I did have a cup of orange/grapefruit slices 30 min before the scan to hopefully get Baby J to do some moving. He was still for the first 10-15 minutes but then once he started moving he didn't stop. In general he's tracking slightly larger than Noah but we have a long way to go still so we won't get ahead of ourselves.

Training

Had a bit of a light session on Monday with my assistant standing by. Nothing too crazy as I needed to be able to quickly drop whatever I was doing to stop my child from doing something overly dangerous (ie. Noah has discovered the stall bar and climbs it VERY quickly).

Tuesday was scan day then afternoon with Noah day. Managed to hit 20,000 steps for the first time in 10 days too!

Wednesday was the second and last successful training day of the week. I attempted a session on Friday but the bump wasn't super comfortable and I couldn't find positions that 1) let me breathe properly 2) didn't make me feel like a small human was inside me (ok, I know there is actually one there but trying to train when this little thing is just writhing inside and changing position every 2 seconds just feels a bit off).

Saturday I managed to get up and down Violet Hill and The Twins for the first time this pregnancy! Back in 2020 I used this hike as a measure of lung capacity and general cardiovascular fitness. Safe to say I was fitter in 2020 than I am now...I felt like I was going to burst a lung going up Violet Hill (weirdly The Twins was much easier - I guess the system was already shocked beyond recognition). I miraculously managed it in 92 minutes which is a decent pace especially given the fact that it felt like it took me 92 minutes to go up Violet Hill alone.

I did feel a huge sense of accomplishment on the bus home though and wasn't nearly as sore as I expected I would be in the following hours and days so I think I'll try it again in a few weeks. I managed to do it until I was 28 weeks with Noah before it well and truly got too difficult so let's see how far I make it this time!

Needless to say, Sunday was a rest day.

Life in General

Now that we've gotten over the anatomy scan hurdle the next one is the glucose test. The most dreaded test on the planet - but I'll save the complaining for later, when I actually do it. I will say I do find the first half of pregnancy to be a bit nerve wracking. Of course I'll love a child no matter what but we all wish and hope for healthy and smooth pregnancies and babies and the first few weeks of genetic tests then anatomy tests really do add a sense of anxiety. That's obviously not to say we're completely in the clear for the rest of the pregnancy but it's definitely a moment where you can breathe a little easier.

My third mini win also came on Saturday, I had brunch with friends and initially put on a pair of loose fitting shorts and a shirt, then I looked at myself and thought "this makes me look and fell a lot more pregnant than I think I am" so I decided I'd try to see if my jean shorts still fit me, they do! And I could comfortably sit in them too! To my looser fitting shorts: your time will come, your time is just not quite here yet.

All in all a great week and a good start to the second half of an exciting journey!

Speak to you all next week!
